Are you saying that when the window is all the way up you can't access the screws for the mirror?

I'm surprised Mike(mknapp7879) hasn't jumped on this one!
What about with the glass all the way down? Or was that a silly question?
You may need to loosen the tracks front and rear to move the glass far enough, or you may simply need to remove the upper limit stops so the glass will go a bit higher. I've never done this on a sport mirror car, so I'm clueless too!
There is a panel on the top/front edge of the door that is removable...perhaps that is the key?

My manual says to remove the forward and aft anti-rattle cushions. Using a wedge, block the glass away from the mirror fasteners. While holding outboard pressure on the mirror, remove the forward nut and then the aft nut. Also, if you have a power mirror, tie a piece of string on the power harness so that it doesn't fall down in the door. Unplug the connector and pull the mirror outboard. Hope this helps.

Scott

Who needs mirrors!  Whatever you see in 'm is usually disappearing anyway!

Why are you removing them?

I'm asking because I have sports mirror on my '74 and I bought regular chrome mirrors 2 or 3 years ago.  I realized the plate of a very different shape so I ended up not doing it.  I took a good look at how to remove them and the procedure Scott gave sounds about right.  Either way, it will take more than 5 minutes.

The plate might be glued to the paint too, so be prepared for a little fight.
