Can someone tell me why my speedometer is jumpy?

Cable may need lubed, or replaced. Could also be a gear problem. If you can hear a scratchy noise in the dash, it's probably the cable.
Could also be the speedo head itself.

My speedometer works but my odometer and trip mileage thingy doesn't. What's that gonna take to fix? Thingy??? Must be beer thirty!
I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

At least your milage stays the same no matter how far you drive. Comes in handy when the state historical society comes around to verify yearly milage.

since we are talking speedo's, and no I don't wear them, mine seems to be about 6 to 8 degrees fast so if I am traveling at 70 miles per hour the police man says i was going 77?
anything to adjust it besides slowing down, i think that would be to long of a job and to hard to follow.

All you need to do is change the driven gear in the transmission that drives the speedo cable. Pull the old gear out, count the teeth, and get on with one more tooth. It will read a bit slower.
For the Odometer not working, the gears in the speedo head are not working. These are plastic/nylon and can strip or come out of place. There are place to order the gears, but it may take a bit to get them. It has to be a place that repairs speedos. You can try Electro Sound on Brookpark Rd in Cleveland OH. They have the parts. It's not difficult to replace the gears......once the speedo is out of the dash.
