Blackening Kit
Submitted by: juliet
I bought Eastwood's blackening kit a while ago. I dug it out today to finish up some bolts before I reuse them for my drivetrain reinstall. I found that if you only dip the things in the blackening stuff for a really short time you get more of a blue/greenish sparkly hue to the color. It looks a lot more like black phosphate coloring. If you want more black oxide coloring then leave it in longer. If you leave it in too long it gets powdery though and flakes off. It's a 2 step system. Blackening system, rinse in water, then dip in the sealer. They take about an hour to dry enough to use.
