You can put the hard top on with the soft top still in the car, however I don't know about a 72,but on my 75 it take time and patience to put it on.(need small fingers)

You can put the top on with the other down tight fit to get to the nuts, My 72 has the third bolt in the center. Mine is the original top and hardware, if you have problems let me know I can take pictures.

Can the center bolt on the hardtop be removed for a post '69 that didn't come with the third hole because it wasn't a hardtop car? I've been thinking of shopping for a hardtop too for my '72.

Yes it can. The hardtop I bought for my '69 was a three bolt top and my car is only two bolt. I simply drilled out the rivets that hold the bolt bracket in and it came right off.

Now you guys have me confused. My 72 has the original vinyl hardtop and does not have the center bolt. Just wondering why some would have it and some not. Joel?

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

Found a decent one on ebay in Indianapolis. Reasonably priced at $550. Wrong color but the car is being painted anyway.
