I can't understand why no one bid on this car. It appears to be in very good condition and is loaded with options. My friend called the guy and I think the car can be bought for 15k or even less. What do you guys think?

hmmmmm....according to GM there were 3030 "Orange Flame" Corvettes in '75. Sounds like someone might not know a lot about the car they're trying to sell. Maybe it's the only orange car HE had in '75.
His photos ain't all that great, either!

I don't know if 70L is different than 70. I don't recall the 70 paint code being metallic. Maybe it isn't a Corvette paint code. Any idea if the "L" designates metallic?

In '74, GM started using two tone paint codes. The "L" in the code would be for the lower part of the body, a "U" would be for the top part. In '74, a lot of Corvettes did not have the usual "974" style of paint codes, but instead had "74L". This carried on to the '75/up years.
I don't think the "Orange Flame" color was metallic, either...I think this guy may have been bamboozled, or is trying to bamboozle someone else. I would imagine the car was painted after it left BG, possibly by a dealer. GM wouldn't have painted ONE car at St. Louis in '75...

I don't see ANY metallic in the paint on this car, anyway... Adams' Apple2007-04-01 19:23:01

I just got off the phone with this guy and he has the original window sticker that shows the paint code as 70L, orange metallic.  He stated that he went to  a paint supplier to get some touch-up paint and was told that this code was not for a 75 but he showed him the window sticker to prove that the car came with the 70L paint.  He seems to be a nice guy and in my opinion could have a rare car. I just wish the car wasn't close to 1,000 miles from me.

Our 76 vette is paint code 64L..... and its not metallic.... but on some careful thought into it, i do believe the L stands for lacquer... St Louis mainly painted with lacquer, but i bet there were some out there with enamal or some other type of paint..... Bowling Green used  enamel paint from the start...

That makes sense to me, but what I dont understand is why the original widow sticker says "orange metallic"

You are assuming, of course, that it is the original window sticker.  Those can be "reproduced"(faked) as can any and all other rare stuff.

I know of an antique dealer that uses brewed tea and other things to stain his "antiques".

It's best to "trust but verify".

The owner says a NCRS guy is flying in to inspect the car today, so maybe he can bamboozle him. LOL
