Vette(s): 1969 convertible L71 427/435 4-speed black interior
Does anyone have an idea where I can find a new diverter valve, also known as an anti-backfire valve, for a '69 427/435? It's part of the emissions system and connects to the AIR pump.
The only supplier I've found that lists one is Doc Rebuild, and he wants $200 for one...and I'm not even sure it's the correct one.
Hopefully someone knows of a source for this.

it may be a long shot, but have you checked at the Chevy dealer....? It's surprising what is available through GM Restoration Products and any dealer can order parts through GMRP....

Turns out I was able to fix the old part...a tech at a local speed shop told me to try J-B Weld. I did and the valve is back together and rock solid.
That stuff is amazing. A few dollars for it saved me over $200 for a new part.

The diverter valve bolts to the back of the AIR pump and the hose that feeds it (for lack of a better description) comes across the top and attaches by way of a round, tapered piece which has a ridged edge. I'm guessing it's made that way so the same part can be used in different model cars by indexing the cone part for each particular car. That part had come loose and all the ridges were worn smooth.
I thought all I could do was find a new part...didn't see any at Carlisle and Doc Rebuild was the only supplier that listed it...for over $200.
When the tech at the speed shop told me to try J-B Weld I figured "WTF?" About $4 was nothing if I still had to buy the new part. I was amazed when it worked.
Money saved, an original part on a numbers matching 427/435 convertible saved, and was easy to do.
Hope I described it enough to understand. At Carlisle, everyone whom I asked if they had a diverter valve always, without exception, handed me a part for the vacuum headlights.
