Hey everyone,
I came across this '71 roadster that I'm interested in finding out more about. #s matching, not original paint (originally bronze.) The top in the picture is the hard-top which has been primered (it also comes with a black soft-top.) They're asking 16.5 for it. Please let me know what you think, what I should be concerned about, etc.

Does the a/c work? The brakes work...do they stop the car in a straight line? Does anything leak from the engine and transmission?
It says the frame is solid...what about the birdcage? That's major headaches if it's not solid. Are the rivets showing through the nose of the car which is also a real pain to repair.
A good paint job is going to run upwards of $10k...maybe more or less depending on how much prep is needed. That will have to be added to the asking price to even make a wild guess at what you would have to ultimately invest in the car.
I'm not saying the car is or isn't worth the asking price of $16,500, but the ad leaves as many questions as answers. There could be no issues at all beyond needing paint, but it's what isn't being said that would concern me.
A chrome bumper C3 convertible with the hardtop and soft top is certainly worth looking at and considering...but ask questions, ask questions and ask more questions. It's your money and they want it...make them justify the purchase.

It seems like you'll get a lot more for your money if you spend the extra 4 to 5 thousand up front on one thats got a bit less of a ways to go.
I'd think that the cost of finishing this one up would put you upside down.

It says the engine is matching numbers but does not say if the tranny, differential, or other components match. Seems high to me, given that it needs paint.

The add makes it sound like all it needs is paint. But like Bruce said, that itself could run up to 10K, not including chrome, and other necessary items. The rest of the car would have to be in excellent shape to be worth that much to me.

Hey Terry does your 71 have that twin snorkel breather on it? I thought that was a later model thing.

Interesting question. My original cleaner is up in my attic, but I don't recall it being twin.

I thought the twin was off of an an 80 - 81 car but I am not sure.

The engine bay on my 350/200 Automatic '72 is the spitting image of the one advertised (mine is minus the surface rust evident in the photos) and the twin breather is the same. I agree with the others, i.e., a bit high for the work that is going to be required.
