only 195hp?

That was the base engine offered in 1974. The L82 was 250hp.There was also a BB that offered a whopping 270hp.

I always thought that the 4 speed manuals had the L88 which had 250 HP? Maybe I was wrong and you could get a base L48 with a manual trans?

The L-48 version of the '76 Vettes had a measley 180 HP, the L-82s had 220 HP and would still dust about any other ride of their day...

But is'nt 200hp a little weak?  I understand that a 200hp car today and a 200hp car car 30 years ago is not the same due to safety emissions and catalytic converters but does it really make that much of a difference?

p.s. Keep in mind I've never own a muscle car. :)

Compared to today's cars, 200 HP was real weak, but it was big back then. They started rating net HP numbers around 1972 and they are still basically the same now as then. In the mid - late 70s 200 HP was a big number and Corvettes have always been set up for lots of low end grunt.

Check out the low end grunt of the revolutionary 1986 L-98 stock engine that made "only" 235 HP on a vidclip of the last time my wife let me drive her '86 Pace Car;

ok the previous Shark I saw (above) was crap. the engine was rusted, gas tank was leaking, t-tops were very herd to put in place and lock. The engine is not the original and he had no paperwork!  I told him I can't give him more than 5,000cdn for it. do the deal is off.

Now I've stumbled on another one that has full documentation, original owner. matching numbers,86k original miles.

Only problem is I'm in canada and he's in Ohio!!!!

tfidas,

Since the car you are considering is in Ohio, you might want to contact the Canadian Customs & Revenue Agency before trying to make a deal on it. Atleast find out what it would cost you to import the car into Canada. I'm sure there will be some expense involved at the border.
