Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
Here is a car that was listed on ebay last week as a 1972 matchings numbers car with a 350/300hp engine. We all know that there was no such engine offered in 72. The Vin# on this car shows it to be a base 200hp engine.
This corvette dealer has relisted the car this week as a matching numbers 350/270hp engine which would be an LT1. Now most of us would know that this car has neither engine that the dealer is representing the car to have.
My question is, if someone bought this car as represented by the dealer, what recourse would they have?

If you know this to be fact, you should report it to ebay. They pride themselves in preventing this type fraud whenever and wherever caught.
Since they receive around 3 mil listings per day, they cannot be expected to be expert on every item however, they do police when informed.
It would be hard to "prove" in a court of law that the dealer deliberately misrepresented the car however, he/she should be held to a much higher standard of proof as an expert in the field.
Bottom line with ebay is caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). It is fun sometimes to send these yahoos direct questions, then prove them wrong with your response to their response. They are supposed to post all Q&A's so that would be something else to report if they didn't post it.
I would definitely give an email to ebay and provide them the proof they need to hammer this idiot.

...............And the Seller says the car is "Sunflower Yellow" (Code 912).........NOT!!
If you look at the picture of the door tag it's coded 989 - War Bonnet Yellow...............do ya' think they are confused?

Report if you want but most of you remember my misfortune with the 71 LT1 from Ebay. It could not have been more misrepresented and Ebay would do nothing. Even the lawyers said it would be tough to fight in court. I could not have been more disappointed in Ebay. If you can't personally inspect it then don't buy it.

While the eBay listings are fun to peruse, I agree with Scott. I need to inspect and drive the car before I would agree to a purchase it.
There is no substitute for low end torque!

[/QUOTE] Good advice friends. My boss buys all his vehicles off ebay. Pickups, forklifts, Peterbuilts and so on, and his track record is perfect. Everything he buys needs major, costly repairs in a very short time. Can't say why he continues .Jimmy B.
