Well someone on the Corvette Forum website sent me a busted piece of a 1970 grille. I've practiced using the Durafix product www.durafix.com to make similar repairs to what mine will need but thus far have not been successful enough to try it on my own grille.
I may try the muggyweld product www.muggyweld.com to see if that will work.
In the meantime, I scored big time on a front grill set on eBay. Got a 1972 right side grille (without the fiber optic hole in it - perfect for my NCRS purposes) and a 1970 left side grille. Both are in amazing shape. Got 'em both for $71.00 including shipping
Sorry but the left side grille has already gone to another Corvette buddy here in Texas.

Micki, nope soldering gun wouldn't do the trick. What I really need is someone who can weld aluminum diecast as that is what the '70 - '72 grilles are made out of. If I can get it welded, rechromed, and painted then I'll have me a good spare or else sell it to someone else who needs one
.
