Cruise servo

Hey guys,

My cruise control servo is a piece of crap. Its failign apart, and the chain broke. I want to keep every option the same, so rather than take it all out completly, does some one have one that is in really good shape that I could buy? A new servo is like $93, its not even a servo, its like a VACCUM! I don't want to pay $93 for a part like that. If no one has one that I could buy, does anyone know of a place I could send it in to be rebuilt?

Hey Roy,

Can you post some pics? Do you have that metal chain with it? All the rubber is good? No rust (or minimal)?

Ken will this work for my '77? I know that on several of the sites that has them, like for '77s are like '77 only.

Hey Ron, you are correct.
However, its called a 'servo' in all the catalogs. Why they call it a servo I have no idea, its a vacuum.

It's actually called a vacuum servo, rather than a vacuum.  All the names Ron listed are also correct.  It depends on the application and mfg of the part as to what it's called.  The heater blend doors work the same way.  The reason for our confusion is sometimes the transducer is refered to as a servo, but that's entirely different.

It's just a spring loaded rubber diaphram in a can.  Vacuum is applied and the vacuum pulls the diaphram in, and opens the throttle.  Relieve the vacuum, and the spring pushes the diaphram out, and the throttle closes.

I'm not sure if the 77 and 79 are the same, but I think so.  Look in some parts catalogs and compare part numbers to verify the application.

I don't know of anyone who rebuilds vacuum servos.  The transducer can be rebuild by ElectroSound on Brookpark rd. Cleveland Oh.  They are a factory warranty center for most electronics in most car lines.  They fix speedo, cruise units, radios, etc.  There are others like them around the country.  If you ask you local dealer parts department, they may tell you of one closer to you.
