I finally got the engine on the engine stand and took a look at the bottom end of the engine. THe Piston in the cylinder that dropped the valve had the wrist pin bent a little, but the connecting \rod looked okay. Anyways, the pistons are going in the trash - wouldn't want someone to chance it. The crank looked good - no gouges on the journals.
So - if anyone is in the Huntsvile, AL area and would like a 400 small block and crankshaft, I can give you a good deal.
Main bearing caps come with it, along with the harmonic balancer, oil pan (if you want it). I can also include the one good head (the other had a big hole punched in it from the valve stem and has been trashed). PM if interested.

I promise the rod is bent if the pin is bent. Not a big deal if repairing the rest of the engine.
