I cant seem to get the VIN decoder to work for me,it tells me I need 13 characters but my ownnership(Canadian) only has 12 for my 1979

It should have 13 characters. Don't think the "export" cars were any diff. than the domestic cars. Are you using the VIN off the car, or the title/paperwork?
Should be something like this:
1Z8789S400001
1Z = Corvette
87 = Coupe
8 = L48 4 = L82
9 = 1979
S = St Louis assy
4 = check digit(means nothing!)
Last 5 # = Sequence/"vin" number
