Hi folks.

There has been some concern about the information requested of you to sign up for a membership here.

Please know that your information is not used by anyone outside C4VR!  It will never be rented, sold or otherwise given to a third party. (see our Privacy Policy)

The reason I ask for such information is so that if some day if I start sending out a printed newsletter or other C4VR swag, I want to be sure that I have accurate contact info for you.

I HATE when my info is distributed, so I won't be doing that to any of you.  I've been running C3VR for over 7 years and folks there will tell you I have never done anything with their info that they didn't approve of. I will continue that here.

Also, you have Privacy Switches on both your Profile and your C4 Registration that allow you to hide certain details from other members of the site.

So, please rest assured, your info is safe.

If you have any questions about this policy, do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks for being here!

Consider this, while your intentions may be above reproach, data bases get hacked all the time.  My wife and I both recently received notice from two separate entities telling us  that exact thing had occurred.  What security  measures are in place here to insure that does not happen?
The more places that store the information the greater the likelihood of having your information accessed.  In my opinion if you don't need it for some legitimate reason it should not be on the server and "if/ someday" doesn't qualify.

I agree with toptech, if its not needed now, don't ask for it. All your going to end up with anyway is a bunch of false information, no one is going to give out this info if they don't have to in todays world...WW WW72009-03-24 11:21:11

Agreed.  I even had my debit card cloned recently.  Not stolen.  Cloned.  Which means somehow someone got the number, made a duplicate card and went shopping.  So I'm just as vulnerable as the next guy.

This site is as secure as most. Firewalled, password protected, etc.

As I've said, I have no problem with people putting false info.  And honestly, out of the over 150 that have signed up so far, very few have provided false info.  So the fear either isn't that great or there are dozens of people NOT signing up because of the the fear.  But I wouldn't be able to quantify that.

At any rate. People have the right to share the info or not. They also have the right to sign up here or not.  Even if I didn't require the info, people may still not want to sign up here for any number of reasons.  So I can't please everyone nor can I have everything the way I'd like it.  So I'm just going with what has worked so far on C3VR & C6VR.

Also, that "someday" thing..... I'm probably going to be sending window stickers for free to the first 200 people that signed up.  So if they want the sticker, they'll have to have a valid address on file.

Oh, and if people are THAT worried about their address being out there, they aren't going to be concerned with JUST C4VR.... they'd be worried about it all over the place. Those people should do what I do and get a PO Box.
