Karen, the solution is simple...buy another Vette, and drive BOTH!!
Mama and I cannot make much more than an overnight/two night trip in the '74. The '85 will hold much more crap(all MAMA'S ).
We did once go on an NCRS road tour in the '74 for three days...not a happy site...
This is why we always take two cars...that, and the fact we can't stand to be in the same car with each other that long!
(not really...and don't ya'll tell her I said that! )

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
karen, the secret is in only taking what you have  to, washing alot the way, understanding that you have to pack light and that most people at the opening will be in the same boat. my wife and I went on a 1000 mile trip this last summer, and the only things on the luggage rack was the folding chairs.  and i had to make the deal if she finds something to pay you agree to ship it home... it is cozy thight but what the heck your criusin in a vette, BTW you have less room with the top down. pratice all winter packing you;ll be surprised at how much can fit.behind the seats.  it you really get in a bind you can: shipp your bags to and from, try those space saver bags and flatten everything you can by sucking the air out.  the week end in june it dates hold you is the same weeek end as a disability employment confrence in ellensburg that my wife and i are asked to do a presentation at agian this here have to chose the road, vette or disability, both are passions. keep packin and planning reno is only an overnight trip at the most from where we are

Vette(s): 1965-327 coupe, 1968-small block coupe, 1969-427, 1971-454 coupe and currently a 1976-ZZ4 coupe reborn again,and hotter than ever.. Add a 1996 CE LT-4 for backup
Karen, I have a 1976 and my wife and I made the trip last year from Washington to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and return, we logged in over 9000 miles with some side trips, I will PM you with a few ideas we learned on our trip. The first thing that is a must with two people in a Corvette traveling on a long road trip is; you must love each other, if any doubt take two cars? This will be a short trip for you and if you travel with a group it's a blast. Check my thread for the Northwest Caravan..Terry

We'll be stoping at my brothers place in Oregon first then trek down to the gathering.   Long way but well worth the trip.   Family is good to see.

Map Quest shows:

Total Est. Time: 89 hours, 15 minutes     Total Est. Distance: 6011.81 miles

That's without fuel/resturant stops, detours, family outings, reno/tahoe gathering and collecting stuff.   So that means time and distance will be more.    Ouch  Thumbs%20Up

[QUOTE=kkfinch]I'm curious.  Realize I'm VERY new to Vette ownership.  I assume y'all are driving your Vettes..??  Where, exactly, do you put luggage, even small overnight bags???  I'm assuming two people in the car (me and my husband.)

Karen, we have a 77 also and the trick to luggage is soft luggage bags. We can pack the T Tops, two folding  Corvette chairs and 5 duffel size luggage bags in the back of the 77 and still have room for two speakers and some cleaning supplies. Its all in how you pack it. Theres a lot of room in the upper left and right sides that usually doesn't get used if you just shove things in the back.
Suzy pretty much packs the house when we go  off in ours, so I had to learn to make the most of the space.
Last year while returning from Bowling Green we ran into a storm, big black clouds and frequent lightning and large rain drops. It was quiet the show watching me get the T Tops from under all that luggage on the side of the road  and getting it all packed back in . I think I did it in about 2 minutes, luggage was flying everywhere. LOL
