I live on Route 66 in Oklahoma City. Any scouting the area for dining and overnight stays I could provide information.

I didn’t respond directly to your poll because, as usual in a poll none of the possible replies fit my situation.
I am a Canadian and I live on the north shore of Lake Erie about 40 miles west of Buffalo NY.
I am probably 600 miles East of your starting point. That makes it a long trip for me.
I love the thought of a complete Route 66 trip and I think you have a great idea, every time I have used the route it was in bits and pieces. I have been thinking about doing the trip this year because it is the 100th Anniversary of Route 66. Then I thought about the possibility of big crowds on the same trip. That plus the current price of gasoline and all the associated unknowns about the route and I, sort of dropped it.
I have already covered almost all of the road from Amarillo,Texas to the Santa Monica Pier many times. Some sections as many as 5 times. I know that in several spots, for instance west of Albuquerque to Flagstaff the road is gone. At least I couldn’t find it. Traffic is often routed to I-40.
Kingman to Oatman is one of my favourite parts of the Route. I’ve been to Oatman at least four times. Watch out for burro poop on your floor mats, LOL.
The last time I tried the route from Needles to Amboy, I believe the road is completely closed due to flood damage.
Many of the attractions along the Route are sprucing themselves up in anticipation of this year’s crowds and you will still benefit from that next year, without the crowds.
Anyway, I think you have a great idea and I would strongly support you and the way you are doing it, but I just can’t join you at this time.

John - totally understand your points. When we lived in Minnesota and Colorado getting to sections of "The Mother Road" would have been easier treks - just never made the time for those to happen. Now that we're living in northeast Vermont just getting to Pontiac, IL is over 1,100 miles (1,770 kilometers). Adding in Lebanon, MO and then the journey back home would make that a nearly 3,000 mile (4,828 kilometer) trek (that's a walk in the park for "Road Warrior" dwright who lives in central New York and over the years has traveled to most of the Gatherings). Will have to see how the plans shake out and how the economy is faring before making a final decision on attending.

My sister-in-law has a knack for finding interesting birthday cards to send me. This one was waiting for me when we got home from Williamsburg. It's a year early but certainly fits the theme.
