If it's pinging now, you(they) may have gotten some crap up under the EGR valve, and it's not seating correctly, or it could be stuck shut. If it's stuck open a bit, it will make it not want to idle, sorta like a vac. leak. If it's stuck closed, it can cause the engine to ping. Might need to get that checked before ordering up a stroker... Tho a stroker WOULD be nice...
They removed the VGR and cleaned it out, put it back with a new gasket, You think it still could be a problem? I guess i'll take it off and check it out.
Thanks Joel.

It may be that the EGR solenoid is faulty, and not operating the EGR valve properly. If the intake gasket was blown in the center, that's right where the EGR passage is. Perhaps that's what caused the gasket to delaminate/blow out to start with. Just a thought...Stranger things have happened.

Can I tell if the valve is operating correctly if i remove it. The dealer guy blamed the EGR also, said it was clogged with carbon and most likely the heat build up is what caused the gasket to go.
The EGR valve is only a year old, but lke you said the solenoid may be to blame, how do I check that?
Thanks,
Dave

If you haven't done it already you may want to check the fuel pressure.  The hose connecting the pump to the fuel line was the majority of Pete's (PJK82CE) idling and low speed problems (bad TB gaskets and a few other vacuum hoses contribute also).  And as the hose began to disintigrate high speed drivability went in the hopper also.

Thanks Jim, but the fuel pressure is fine.
