Here are some links to FRS radios that you can buy on Amazon.
If you are going to be in a Caravan this will be very useful for you.
They'll probably come in handy on our tour around Lake Tahoe, and any other drive we do as a group!
The ones listed below are way more powerful than the ones I've used in the past. I'm probably going to order the first set myself!
Uniden GMR1038-2CK 22-Channel 10-Mile Two-Way Radios (Pair) $29.99 (FREE Super Saver Shipping)
Motorola T5500R GMRS / FRS Rechargeable 8-Mile Two-Way Radio (2 Pack, Blue) $49.99 (FREE Super Saver Shipping)
Uniden 14-Mile 22-Channel 2-Way Radios with Dual Charger $29.99
Uniden GMR1038-2 22-Channel 10-Mile Two-Way Radios (Pair) $19.99
Uniden 20-Mile 22-Channel 2-Way Radios with Voice Scramble and NOAA Alerts $52.67

I just ordered the Uniden GMR1038 2pack for $29.99 shipped free!
The reviews were good, and sounds like a good product.
However, I did not know this until reading the review (prior to ordering) that to use the GMRS radio feature you have to have a license. The GMRS feature is how you get up to 10-miles. You can get up to 4 on FRS.
Anyone own a GMRS license?

Yes Adam, you can go on line and apply. A lot of people do not get a license? I did, it's a 5 year license and I don't know if I will renew?

I don't mean to sound like I'm advocating operating the radio illegally, but who's really checking and how could they locate you?

Also, how do the different bands work... is it a certain number of channels for FRS and another set of channels for GMRS, or is it a "mode"? I guess I'll find out when I get mine and read the manual.

There are so many out there, how would they get you? I only use it a couple of times..They sell up here at Costco like hotcakes during fishing season and I know not everybody gets a license..

The FCC has specialized equipment used to locate illegal radio transmissions including those from Ham, FRS, CB, Marine and aircraft. They are able to hone in within a few meters and determine whether the operator has a legal certificate to operate. The illegal operator is then terminated via a Republican high frequency laser/led beam and reduced to ash immediately. I will now return you to you're regularly scheduled station and go back on my meds now. Dang it that frame-off is killing me.

I think everyone should be on channel 3 , C3, get it. CB or FMR, channel 3.
Everyone should remember that one.
