I took that route Dick suggested around Chi-town coming back from Boston after the 2012 Gathering in Charleston. It was great for going on to Minne-snow-ta but it does take you a little farther west going up to Appleton.
The I-Pass/EZ-Pass/whatever-you-call-it-in-your-state was a great thing to have on that 2012 trek. Bought it through the Illinois Tollway website and it worked throughout the east coast and mid-west. If memory serves the only thing it didn't work for was ferryboats. Great time-saver on the toll roads.
