I really don't know a good way around Chicago going north and south.  Anytime I have to be in that neighborhood I just try to time my trekking through there to be in the middle of the night when the traffic is the lightest or on the weekends.  Rush hours in the morning and afternoon are simply killers.  Plus you never know which expressway is going to be torn up by construction.
 
As far as the ferry is concerned the first crossing of the season is on Friday, the 16th, so it won't help anyone getting to the gathering.  The timing of it going east though is such that you would arrive at Terry's place (my7t1) in Grand Rapids, MI just in time for evening cocktails...!!!  Beer  Thumbs Up  LOL

Thanks Jim. That would save me 100 miles of driving, but the time would be about the same.

Maybe I can stop and visit with Terry and Patti and then drive thru Chicago at midnight.

Hi Dave, don't go thru Chicago. Stay on 94, meets 80 west. Follow 80 to 355 north sub. Will get off at 90 west, Rockford, il. You can get off at Belvidere exit and I can meet you. Or you can stay on 90 north into Wisconsin. Tolls are a kicker, unless you have I Pass.

I think Dick was serious ... stay away from Chicago ... advice heeded ... looks like Belvedere may be a meeting spot ????
