Does any of the old route 66 run near Branson? If it does it might make for a good cruise. Anyone been there?

Old Route 66 runs southwest through Missouri passing near Springfield on the way to Joplin, MO. and into Oklahoma.  It approximates the route that is currently Interstate 44.  Springfdield MO. is about 45-50 miles north of Branson, so a day trip to run parts of old Route 66 would be feasible.  We would need to research what portions of the old road are still available for travel in that area.

Would also need to find out if there's anything worth seeing on that section of road.
Thanks,
Dave

I did that run on my motorcycle last summer, there is a rt-66 park in rolla and from rolla to springfield is all good road to travel on. Most of us would probably go down I-44 to branson anyway. But man I HATE the traffic in branson

[QUOTE=dnv]Think about this guys.  Oklahoma and Kansas are basically flat and the roads go N, S, E, W with very little in the way of curves unless you get into the SE part of OK.  Southern and S.E. Missouri have more curves as does Arkansas.  There is a reason there are several major events in Arkansas, TWISTY, TURNY, ROADS!!!

Branson is overcommercialized IMHO however, Eureka Springs, Hot Springs, Rogers, Ft. Smith, Conway, Little Rock all have places to stay and lots of TWISTY, TURNY, ROADS close by.

Just a little food for thought.

I live in Hot Springs, AR -  northern and central AR are pretty good for driving routes.
