Why do my dash lights dim out at nightime when I put my lights on? I can't see anyhting.

The gauges are supposed to dim when the headlights come on, but..you should still be able to see them. Have you tried turning the headlight knob? It controls the brightness of the gauges. If that doesn't do any good, then the photocell in the dash may be bad, or there could be a problem in the dash cluster.
Are ALL of the gauge lights too dim(dash and center stack), or just the ones in the upper dash(speedo, etc)?

My whole dash. I did replace the headlight switch also. If I hold a light over the fiber optic hole the dash lights up as it does in the daytime.

So the photocell is working. Still appears to be a problem with the dimmer portion of the headlight switch, or the wiring between it an the cluster. You did not say, but I'll ask again..did you try turning the headlight knob with the headlights on?

Vette(s): 1987 rare two tone silver beige medium brown with the optional 3.07 rear end mated to 4 speed automatic. The build sheet states that this is a production test car, sent to milford proving grounds for testing. 78,000 miles with original paint.
may I ask which 3 amp fuse? I know somebody with the same problem.
