Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
I know it is a little early to be thinking about the 2009 members meeting and I also know that it is going to be on the EAST COAST, which brings me to the thought at hand:

What if enough of us committ to going, and filled up a car hauler to truck our vettes to the east coast and back.  AND what if those some people could look into a charter flight or renting a plane and having "PARROT HEAD" pilot us round trip.

Cost of gas, hotel, breakdowns, days off of work, would more than likely equal out the cost of renting the hauler.

We would have a whole year to book vacation time plan the time frame and save up the money.

Any body got anything to say, Do they rent planes?

I personally see this could work and it would also give a nice northwest showing at the event and i have never been there.

pipe in boys, girls, steve (lol)

My only thought is that proably the costs involved in this would be much more then the cost to actualy drive all the way to the east coast.  I don't really know this I'm just assuming this based on the cost of fuel these days, truckers and the airlines are being hit hard by the fuel costs.

If it does end up being in Rhode Island, I probably won't drive MY Pace Car there.  My cousin Dennis, VP of Club Corvette in Connecticut has already offered a fill-in Corvette.  He's going to let me barrow his 1978 Pace Car Big%20smile

YOu could probally rent a car trailer that can be pulled behind a dually truck. I think they can 3 - 4 cars on it. Or if you slurged maybe a regular car hauler could take them. Riding a chartered bus woould be easier and cheaper method of travel than the airplane. Even though the airplane would be awesome.

Yes they rent whole planes Larry.
It cost $500 a seat and when you buy all the seats, ITS YOUR PLANE!!!
How cool is that?

Anyway wouldnt it just be cheaper to buy a Vette on the east coast and drive it for the weekend then sell it? Or maybe store it for them east coast shows?

I like the idea of a Pilgrimage across the US to get to the gathering.
Let's see the West Coasters out number the East Coasters in 2009!!!

Sounds like someone needs to start an adopt a Corvette program for when you travel to another state without your Vette you can care for and drive a Vette when you are there with this program.Big%20smile

They are actually outlining charter flights in our operations manual.  Don't know the availability yet but we would basically need to fill the airplane to make it worthwhile (50-70 people)  Then I'm WAGging it would run around $350-$400/ea for the round trip.  That would probably not include catering or drinks.  I can ask.

Uh...who'd be the FO?  Confused Any other C3VR members out there certified on the CRJ 500 or 700?  And, could the plane sit idle for a weekend?????  It would be a blast, though!!!  Just imagine...daring to leave your tray table down during take off and landing!!!  Actually, Mikey would probably make me be the flight attendant! Unhappy
