Alright, maybe special isn't the right term, how about unusual?  I've been getting a bajillion emails from the NCM email list and just about every person posting has a C5, C6 or C7.  I haven't seen any dedicated(one person has multiple generations) C3 posters.  It made me wonder how many are still on the road and how many are going to join the caravan.  I get that our cars are 30-40 yrs old and compared to the newer models I don't see nearly as many C3's out driving around but I never really thought about it.  Probably for a couple of reasons.  I have always worked on older cars, late 60's to earl 70's so the '81 seemed new to me.  I also just turned 51 so 1981 seems like 3 weeks ago sometimes.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
We had a long run of C3's.  It would be interesting to actually know how many are still registered is some state or another.

Does anyone know if you can get records like that from your local state DVM?

I would love to know the answer to this also. When I see all the photos of corvette graveyards and all the parts on the net....it always makes we wonder...even if it's just a percentage, it would be fun to know.

I am traveling with the Southern Caravan and will be driving a C3 either my 78 or my 69 just can't decide the 78 gets 21 to 23 mpg and the 69 gets 8 to 10 mpg.

When we ran in the 2009 NCC there was a fellow and his grandson who I considered EXTRA special.  The red with white coves '59 kept pace with the main group both days of the run to BG and the top was dropped most of the time.  I'm pretty sure that will be a trip the grandson will remember for the rest of his life!

"The Toy" hasn't been driven to a gathering since 2004 as I just haven't had the time or $$$ to keep it in good long haul shape.  I trailered it to the '06 and '08 gatherings but will be driving to this year's gathering since we're close to home.  "The Beast" is just such a great road car for long hauls that is why I've driven it more recently.

If we're planning on joining the NCC this year I'd be tempted to run "The Toy" just to stand out some in the sea of C5s, C6s, and C7s.

It looks like I will be making the trip after all. 76 is out of the shop once again, and I am doing the break in, again on this monster...LOL. I will be joining the Okla.,TX, panhandle group and it seems that by the time this group reaches Springfield, MO. that should be about 400 cars for lunch. Still taking care of minor details. Air not finished, but weather is so cool, that I will take the tops off and go without. Cannot wait.
