Vette(s): 1978 L48, p/s, p/w/ factory ac car factory manual trans has a 350 crate engine w/260hp, but also have original which may be rebuilt- we also have a 76 w/ a 454, and 74 350 in various stages of being rebuilt, plus an 86 and an 02....
Ok- This may be the wrong section, if so I'm sorry- still trying to figure out all that, but I have a serious question- on the vin decoding- I've got the basics, year, model, engine, etc- however I am trying to find out the original paint, interior, package, etc of my car. Its a 78 L48- that I know, but according to all info, it may be the anniversary edition, but as it was repainted in 98, I'm not sure. Where would I be able to find that info? And either way, I'd like to know since I may take it back to original..... any help appreiciated

Open your drivers door and look about halfway up the post beside the windshield. These's a tag there with that info.
I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

Build date, paint and trim codes are on the trim tag found on the driver side door jam. If you post the codes, we will decode them for you.

And who would have thought it was that simple.....Thank you soooooooo much!!!! Since you are all so helpful... I have another question- I have been working on restoring a 74, and a 76. I have enjoyed all of it, but when I decided to buy mine... I wanted less of a project. Body is good, paint is decent, has a new crate engine, but also have the original, needs to be rebuilt. Its in good enough shape to take back to numbers matching, but I'm torn- I want one to enjoy, drive when I want, etc. If I go original, then I would have to keep it stock, but if I don't, I'd change a few things-like interior color, possibly a few more mechanical mods- anyone have pros and cons for either idea? THanks in advance for opinions and info (: Also- for original enthusiasts, it has the factory manual, which was a rare thing that year.... 3300 or so out of 40000 had it... I dunno.....

C3 General Disscussion would be the correct placement of this topic in the Forums Section.

None of that is in the VIN. The trim tag on the driver's door post is what you want. The Corvette Black Book lists the color codes.
Post your codes. I always have a Black Book with me.
