Hey guys,

I'm confused here. I made the decision instead of my previous post to just upgrade the whole suspenion in the rear. I'm not goign to get the new trailing arms, what you see loosk bad, but they really aren't if you look at them in person, rather than the pics. The busings however are bothing me, so I thin we're going to replace them. I got the new havy duty struts. Should I get the

315LBS one?
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=A7130&dept%5F id=1793

Or the 340LB one?
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=A7131&dept%5F id=1793

waht does these weight ratings mean? THey both specify for small block engiens.. and then have the weight rating of either 315LBS< or 340LB. I got the higher perofrmance adjustable struts already as listed here:

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=28877&dept%5F id=1843

I am really confused once again on this...

Thanks guys,
-Louis

I've got the 340 # on my 78,it works pretty good,I think the 315,is softer, maybe a little mushy, the 340 is better if you have the gymkhana suspension, which I do,dont know if yours does or not,as for the strut rods I just replaced mine with the stock rods, and used the cam bolts that were already there they are about 1 hundred bucks or so cheaper, and less work, my $.02

Louis,

I would go with the 340lb. then the 315lb.    As Ron 78 said, "Mushy ride."   Your ride will feel allot better.

If you have doutbs on anything.  Just give Eckler's a call to assisst your needs.  Remember, there are NO stupid questions.

Good Luck little man.

Hey Louis,

Since you also want to save some cash, I'd check out VBP or Van Steel since their prices are cheaper than Ecklers.  I haven't dealt with Van Steel yet but hear their products and service are top notch.  I got my 360# spring from VBP 2 years ago and its great.  You may want to consider the 330# if you want a softer ride.  I also believe that with the use of composite springs you are supposed to have shocks that are tuned for it.  I'd email Van Steel or VBP about it and see what they say.  Switching to a composite spring is great... its a really nice weight savings too.

www.vbandp.com (and their rear springs are actually on sale right now)

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

I purchased the 330# spring from VB&P years ago.  HUGE improvement over the old, tired, sagging, original metal spring!  I went with the 330# because I was tired of feeling every crack in the road.

It's your choice, really...comfort vs feel.

Louis, I just went through this same exercise.. I went with the 340 from Van Steel. The ride and handling is much improved, the 340 offers a good solid feel, and is far more comfortable then the original.

New spring with shipping was about $350.00....

Easy installation,
Good Luck
Steve

Duntov Motor Company? Didn't Zora die in 1996?

I found ones at VBANDP for the same price 269.99 + shiping. However they aren't made to order, so I can get mine ASAP. But that price isn't goign to be on long, its a sale special.

VBANDP said that the shocks don't ahve anything to do with the performance if you're jsut dring on the street wiht the monospring. They said if I got into really heavy duty racing I would need to get Blistiens. However, the 330# monospring is almost equivilent to a stock leafspring, just lighterweight, and a tad bit better performance. So the stock shocks should work fine.

Also these springs are made from FIBERGLASS? Even though its composite materials, are you sure it won't snap, and break under intense pressure, and weight?

Heat is something you have to be careful about with the composite springs.  Make sure you protect it from your exhaust pipes.

I figured heat would do something. Its fiberglass.. so Its going to expand and reform. Not to mention possibly even crack because of the weight tahts on it. Eckler's has a Heat sheild for their springs. How come VBandP doesn't?
