It looks like I'm heading out to Oahu this month for business. I'm probably going to take an extra week to go over to Kauai and do NOTHING! Cool

Wow nice Larry Thumbs%20Up  Me and the wife visited just about every island while living over there and Kaui turned out to be our favorite.  We met and got married in Hawaii, and went to Hawaii for our honeymoon (Big Island = Hawaii LOL ).  We promised ourselves that if we lasted 25 years together we would go back on our 25th Anniversary, Woo Hoo, one more year to go Thumbs%20Up

My first trip to Oahu for work was great, but then it kept getting better as my wife & I also went to the Big Island at Kona and I remembered flying in to the airport thinking it looked looked Gilligans Island. Then the next time to Kauai, and it WAS Gilligan's Island.....almost  Wink       I'd consider retiring there in about 8 more years, except I hear people get Island fever. I'd much rather keep visiting it so I never get tired of it.

Island fever is truely a problem. In 92 moved to the Hilo side of the Big Island to build my house. Within 2 years my wife and I divorced(since remarried) and started planning to leave, separately. Got back together as we saw we both needed to escape.  Took almost 3 years to sell my house, market was terrible at the time. Left it empty in the care of a neighbor for almost 2 years and returned to Chicago. Accepted $170K just to get it over with. Found out recently the house resold 5 1/2 years later for $325K!! Believe it may now be worth $400K plus!!Angry

Worked on Kauai shortly after hurricane Iniki in 92. Island was devastated. That was one of my complaints living there, working off island all the time. Air fare and lodging were always provided but being away from home was miserable. Did a lot of work on Maui, too. Of course if you're retired work isn't a problem. But good medical care could be. Spent a few days in the hospital thanks to a head on crash with an idiot driver.

I still think about it but would never return. I justify leaving by telling myself I wouldn't have my Corvettes except maybe the black79. I probably would never have shipped it over, tho.  Almost sold it in 94Cry. Wouldn't have my beloved Yorkies, my present home with my barn that I love, or my own business.

So many people that I met there that had moved from the mainland were also planning to leave. You can only do the same things so many times! But I would have loved to have driven the Vette there!   Mike
