Vette(s): 1974 Corvette Project
Thanks!!

I just found your site because tonite I came home with a present for myself and my son.  A 1974 Corvette project.  It needs alot of work, but its all there, and its exactly what I have been looking for.

Anyone out there care to tell me how I can find out how/why my car looks different than the other 74s I have seen online tonite?

Is it a stingray?

First off, Welcome to the C3VR Steven Thumbs%20Up  There are a lot of people on this site that are going to answer your questions.  A wealth of knowledge will help you and your son turn that beauty into your dream car.

To me looking at your Vette, it appears that there has been extensive fiberglass work (modifications) done to the body.  Thats not always a bad thing, its a personal preference  Fisrt thing I noticed was the headlight mod, the rear 80's style spoiler, and it looks to me like wider fenders in the rear.  The rear end looks like it has the 80's style rearend fiberglassed in.  Looks like a great project.  I hope you and your son have a lot of fun fixing that baby up.

It starts today.  First task, get it running.  The previous owner removed a bad gas tank and never installed the new one.  I am going to run it on a separate tank so I don't have to reinstall/remove before taking the body off.

Welcome Steven Smile
Was your vette at carisle? Someone sent some photos in from the event and there was a project like yours. If not yours you'll see another in the same state. Look for "photo's from Carsile"
I'm certain you'll love this site. Enjoy...........Evil%20Smileebo

First, welcome to C3VR. You could not have found a better site to assist you with your project. There is a knowledge base here unmatched anywhere, in my opinion. Mark has already pointed out the body modifications. That is a personal preference that some owners choose to make their shark unique. I think the fact that this is a father/son project is fantastic. My dad was one of the best C2 mechanics around back in the 60s and 70s. I have fond memories of his many projects.  I wish you and your son many happy memories.

Well today was a good start.  I got the passenger door open, got the floor carpet and what was left of the seats out.  I also got it running and got to drive it down the block.  It's a SCREAMER.  Extremely loud and tons of power.

One question.  It doesnt want to run right if you dump the gas hard.  Is this a carb adjustment, lack of fuel, or something else?  I pulled 1 plug and the distributor cap thinking it needed a tuneup, but both looked nearly brand new.

Its not running on the tank and any external fuel system to go with the tank.  There is a short hose going to a small gas can in the fender.  I think maybe it isnt getting enough fuel, but its hard to tell at this point.  I am a BMW mechanic and have less than 24 hrs of corvette experience.

I plan to take photos from start to finish, and will surely be around here as much as possible over the next few years to document the progress.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Steven
