Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Welcome Lincoln

Another Collector.  Nice.  How did you come to own it and what is the condition when you came to own it.  Does you rear glass still lift?

Vette(s): 1982 collectors edition
It had been sitting in a "collectors" garage for years...brand new tires that were dry rotted and one of them actually had a radial belt busted in it, no real maintenance just been sitting. The good news is - its a 41k orig mile car.....the bad news- it's a 41k orig miles car that is leaking from every hose now that I am actually trying to drive it down the road....glass still opens and everything works except the power ant and the door locks. Ironically those are the only parts of the car the previous owner touched. I wasn't aware that the rear glass stopped opening...what happens there? Currently I am fighting old gas and fuel pump issues. I just finished with the fuel pump swap to the later year model, hopefully that gets me back on the road. Only put about 75 miles on it so far...

Lincoln

I can help you with a lot of your collector specific issues as I have and continue to go through a number of them.

Before I get to the glass in the back issue what I have found is if address one problem for each post you get a lot better response.  Like your glass issue if I did not like to read when someone answers the welcomes, I would not have found out that you have a glass issue.

Now for your glass issue.  It is cause by the hinges becoming warped.  It happens to all CE's that is why I asked you.  DO NOT PURCHASE a replacement set over the internet they will not work or it will be a set that someone has bent back and they will not last.  The hinge gap should be close to 3 inches and as little as 3.25 inch gap start giving you issues with opening the rear glass.

Now for the good news there is a guy that manufactures replacement hinges and his last.  It is not his business he had to do it to fix his wife's car and he just made more.  That was a number of years ago and he make a batch once a year or so.  He only sell to owners. Will not sell to restorers or parts houses.  He also has lots of information on CE's.  I found him through the CE forum.  While that forum is interesting it does not provide the help you get on C3vette Registry.  Not because they are not nice guys they just do not have the volume of people reading it.  But it is a resource you need to know about.

Another item is purchase the shop manual (GM only) for the 1982.  There are lots of differences with the crossfire that you will need that specific book for.  This is a little high should pay around $50 but it shows you what you are looking for. http://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Corvette-Service-Repair-Manual/dp/B004I6H5FA

Email Steve Simpson at steve@theCUBEstudio.com and ask him if he has any available.

It is an easy enough job to do.  Much easier if you have a second person to help you.  I have done mine and help a guy in town do his also.  You may find you also need the struts.  There is suppose to be a company that will rebuild yours.  I choose to purchase a replacement but kept my old ones as I did my hinges just in case I sold the car and the person wanted the originals.

One other thing keep your post short.  You can see how well I did on that one.
