Hi and thanks for the welcome. I have owned my 1971 Stingray for a little over 23 years, but it has been sitting for the last 13. We are getting it back on the road, and I am looking for a good vette community. I have some questions that maybe people here can help me answer, such as how to tell if I really have the M22 or not. I've been trying to decipher the VIN, but nearly every page I go to has slightly different information on the last 6 digits, so I am a bit confused, anyone who can shed anly light on these things, I would really appreciate it!

Welcome aboard! You have found, in my opinion, the best C3 site on the web. I don't think the VIN is going to tell you anything about the tranny. There is a VIN decoder on this site, under the "tool" button. Someone here will be able to help you find the numbers on the transmission and let you know if it is original to the car.
 Enjoy!
