Vette(s): 73 coupe bought new in 1973 with only luggage rack, AM/FM radio, HD battery & Maplight as options. L48, 4 speed, Paint Med Met Blue 922 interior Dark saddle 418 special order. Repurchased 4/1/06 after 24 years.

Thanks, I will most certainly take pictures and post once I learn how.  I was just browsing on the Chit Chat forum and discovered the Build Date code.  My Vette displays an H26 which would be May 26 1973.  This has me worried a bit, since I picked up the car June 1 1973, and I remember going down to the dealer to check it out and sit in it at least a week or two before that.  Is it possible the build date code for 73 started with A for September.  That would put the build date at April 26 which would be perfect for a mid May delivery.  By the way I would be interested in meeting with anyone in the Austin or central Texas area once my baby is home safe.

John

Some of the date code list are really more of a good estimate.  They come close but are not always correct.  I would not let that in itself worry me.

H26 = March 26,1973. Good for your situation. ("A" would be August '72)

As far as doing a title search, I was able to do my '74 all the way back to the original owner, who lived in Indiana when he bought the car new. He now lives here in Texas. The title search cost I think $10-$15(I can't remember now. They say that's the first to go!), but it went all the way back, and I did recieve copies of the original title, and the subsequent title after it was sold to the second owner. Give me a little time here, and I'll go dig that paperwork out, and I can give you an address to request a title search.

Thanks All, I feel like a kid again.  All sorts of old memories are coming back.  My wife found a picture taken the day after I picked up the car.  I picked it up after my last final exam about 4:00pm Friday June 1 1973.  I drove it 500miles that evening down to Grants NM to pick up my girlfriend, now my wife.  She was 18 at the time and I 20.  The picture shows her standing next to the car in my parents driveway with the Daniels Chev cardboard ad plate still on the front.  I gave her her engagement ring 3 days later at the ring dance (kind of like a prom for academy cadets) the same day I got my AFA ring.  By the way you all probably already know this, but I found a great site with info on build dates, vin numbers by month, standard paint trim codes ect for all years.  Here it is: http://www.corvette-world.com/corvette_specifications.php

Also how do you get your car picture in you signature block?

Best to All, John Reinschmidt

Wow, Thanks Jim.  I like that photo.  I will be taking plenty more in the days to come.  Digital camera's make it so simple and pain free.

Hey John, that's pretty cool that you found your vette again.  What are the odds??

Welcome to C3VR!

Any interest in heading to Pigeon Forge in June with some other Texas vettes?  It should be a great trip.  There's nothing like driving across the country in a vette, with other vettes!

Have a good one,

Bryan
