Vette(s): 1982 Silver Blue
Hi my name is Philip and i am 61 years old.

I am a first time owner of a Corvette. Mine is an 82 and by everything I have read (elsewhere) the 82 model year was not the premier model to own Wink

Becoming an owner was not exactly what I had in mind. The previous owner answered an ad for an El Camino I was selling and offered a trade. I almost didn't do it. The car had sat for a long time, the tires on it were 13 years old and still had good tread, although they were very cracked. My test drive was short, the hard tires made it ride terrible, but what the heck, now I would be able to say that I too was a 'vette owner.

New tires made a big difference in the ride, but it is obvious that shocks, suspension bushings and some other parts will soon need to be changed.

Looking forward to meeting the members and learning about this unique car.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
That El is sharp, but don't let anyone tell you an '82 is not a great car to own.  That silver streak is a thing of beauty!  Congratulations on your acquisition and for joining here!  You're gonna love this place

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

I like it. It has a surprising amount of power for a cross fire engine, but it seems to be geared really high. Of course everything else I own has a 3.73 gear so I am used to be able to putt around in over drive  Smile

the El Camino had tubular suspension, big sway bars and a TPI 350. I thought it coenered well until I drove this Corvette on the same twisty road, what an eye opener....now if the tourists would just stay out of my way LOL

Philip,

Congrats on that sweet lookin' Corvette! Is the paint color "Ice Blue Metallic"?

Sounds like you've got the bug. Welcome to the site!

Nice looking Vette ya got there. I like the color too.Thumbs Up
As far as not being the premier model to own, they just don't have the power of the earlier ones. What they do have is style and they are a heck of a lot of fun to drive.Big smile
Nice looking camper rig you got there, too.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

The color code is 24, Silver Blue. As soon as the other money pit is on the road I can start on refreshing the Corvette. I have a wood grain overlay on the console that I have not seen in other 82's, was this an option? (click here to see)

The trailer is actually a toy hauler. Since Mary's back surgery she can not ride the Harley very far. so we take it on vacation in the trailer and do short trips wherever we are camped.

The other car is a 77 Nova, 450hp sb 400, TKO 600, 3.73 posi rear. The brakes were upgraded to 12" front and 10.5" rear using all GM parts. The interior was redone with lots of old man type creature comforts installed. Power windows, locks, power seats from a 95 Firebird and electric trunk release. The factory AC will be charged with 134A. This weekend should be the first time in 5 years it will be drivable. Then the work on the 82 will start, except it will not be taken off the road for years...it is just too much fun to drive to have it on jack stands.

The wood grain was an aftermarket add on, available for all years of C3.

Vette(s): #1 *1980 White, Red interior 14,000 mile #2 *1980 Red, Oyster interior 93,000 miles Resto project car, rebuilt to 383 stroker
Phillip, that extended body on the 80's is what made me buy my vette, I had always loved the C3 but never though I could afford one so just sat back and admired them. 1982 ish we came into a nice bonus pot of cash and decided on a new car, we were looking at the Chrysler 5th ave back then and just before we bought I said I'm to young to be driving my fathers car as I drove by our local chevy dealer and a dark green 82 sat out front. I stopped and checked it out and fell in love, I then was lucky enough to find mine with 7K on it......and so 28 years later.....
They are no drag car thats for sure mine will struggle to break the tires loose but go into a 25 MPH exit ramp at 60.......now that will get your heart pumpin..... (or shorts soiled)......enjoy!
