Hi... I have a 2007 Tahoe with the 5.3 that has the OH-SO WONDERFUL active fuel management system.
I'm getting the OH-SO TYPICAL lifter tap, and I'm looking to do the AFM delete swap on it... I know thats a full cam and lifter swap, my question is... Is there any way to permanently re-program the ECM, or do I have to have that plug-in programmer plugged in forever?
Any help will be appreciated.

I have the Rage Technologies plug in thingy for my '14 Silverado. Keeps it in V8 mode.

AFM can be deleted by a tuner. They use programs like HP Tuner etc. to edit that out of the ECM.

I had a local guy plug into my ECM when I was getting ready to fire up the '81 after completing my LS swap. He turned off most of the emission stuff and rear O2 sensors since I wasn't running all that stuff.

Thanks for the replies. I have to replace the lifters anyway. The AFM lifters actually have springs on them, and they all fail eventually...Might as well get rid of the system, and put regular hydraulic rollers in there, and eliminate that problem...
If you drive anything with the AFM system on it, even if you have the bypass plugger, the mechanical parts WILL FAIL on you.
I will look into a programmer... Thanks for the help, guys!

Why don't you try a forum more familiar with this engine? gm-trucks.com is a pretty good one.

I figured we're all car guys here, and know engines. It's also more friendly here than other sites.
