I was just going to ask ya all for sum ideas. But I don't make as many newbe mistakes any more and went lookin for an old thread.

WaaLaa....here it is.

But I'm havin a hard time keeping the moth balls from fallin out of the fishnets

I always heard it was not good to be starting them up just to warm them as it causes to much condensation. Moth ball in the tailpipe great idea. I had an old jeep plow rat and threw some old cornstalks in the back after halloween....could not figure out how popcorn was coming out the exhaust

ps everyone agree to change the oil at the end of season?

Everyone has tips and tricks they do to minimize problems with spring strart-up. I think it is good to get that old oil out and fresh oil in when you put her to sleep for the winter nap. Then you are good to go in the spring.

I even know anal guys that will change that oil out again in the spring, just to be sure. But that is too much for me.

I will take her out for a ride in the winter if the roads are dry. But far enough to get everything warmed up good.

Awwww Mannn, I thought we were friends Dave.... an then ya go an call me Anal.....

Well winter oil runs great in a Saturn even if it is 2nd generation Vette oil. Call it recycling.....

Yeah Kewl. Glad to see the old posts dredged up for winter storage tips. I'm almost getting ready, but hope to put it off for a couple more months. The cold doesn't matter, but as soon as we get a good freeze on the roads and they spread salt, it's all over. We have club "Drive and Dine's" up through early November, tho sometimes we have to take the steel bodies (ug). It's been forever since I've been around or posted anything, so HI to all of you - and again those I ran across (not literally) in PA a couple years ago.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible

I went to a carpet store a few years back and got 4 sample pads (about 18" x 12") for free. I position those on the garage floor so when I pull in that last time, the tires sit on them for a little cushion. I do also try to find a sheet of plastic large enough to go underneath as well as dome dryer sheets here and there.

I try to fill the tank and add enough Stabill. I've gone different paths with changing the oil - before, after, etc... I leave the windows down and the top up. I have used some of the bags of silca inside and underneath the car. Last winter, we did end up with mice in the garage and the house, but I never saw any evidence of them in or around the Vette. The little "peanut butter" poison traps in the garage seemed to help too.

I have been known to take the car out in late December or early January if the weather is nice, and especially if it's gotten warm enough to have some rain to wash the salt off the roads.

I've never disconnected the battery (although I did buy a quick disconnect doohicky from MAM and intend to install it) and have never had an issue. What's the down side to leaving the battery hooked up? It's not like there's any power drain when the car's not being run - remember, I've got a C3 - the clock doesn't work!!

One more thing I'm going to do this year is to put a hold on my insurance. My State Farm rep reccommended that to me to save some $ over the winter. They will keep neccessary coverage in case of fire or other damage since the home and other cars are covered with them. They noted that if I do decide to take it out even for a day, just call them and they'll take care of things.

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
