Wheels...

Decided to pull the wheels off and do a deep clean on them while the car was "off its feet". The contact patch where the wheels mate to the rotors is rusty, as they all are. I've seen a number of videos about cleaning/painting the rotor "hat", not sure I want to go that deep at the moment.

Anyway, that corrosion has transferred to the wheels, as they all do. I know, any time air, metal and water get together rust forms - that's the natural order.

I'm going to cleanup the wheels with a wire brush and go after rust on the rotors somehow. I know it would be easier to do them by taking them off the car but I don't really feel like pulling the calipers (yes, I'm feeling lazy at the moment).

After getting the rotors cleaned up some, before putting the wheels back on does anyone have thoughts on a coating that could be applied to either the rotors, or the wheels, that would inhibit the corrosion from coming back? Whatever coating would have to be "nice" to the wheels. Or do I look for a wafer-thin spacer to put between the rotors and the wheels? Thoughts?

I had also thought about trying some of the rust preventative stuff I bought at MidAmerica one year. Never took the opportunity to try it on "The Toy" so don't know if it works as advertised.
