Simple Green versus Greased Lightning

I work at an industrial facility and Simple Green gives out samples since we buy so much. They have a clear version (crystal) that is even better than the green stuff. BTW, the green stuff is certified by the gov't for removing oil and grease residues from Oxygen piping and valves. Joe

Having worked for the Government for over 29 years I can tell ya that if they actually certify something to take of grease, oil or grime, they don't play around, it will work. First question I would ask is, does it remove the grease by removing the top layer of metal the grease is on? That kinda falls under the $600.00 Government toilet seat that was in the newspapers years ago.

I just bought some Simple Green on the advice of a local Ford guy(he seemed nice enough) and you guys seem to think its good stuff so that's good....My battery bucket(behind the seat in my 75) has a lot of blackish greasy gunk in and around it and a gaping hole off to the center of the car(i thought it was something small when they failed me for it....but when I pulled the battery out....wow...) anyway...it was suggested that the hole was caused by a leaking battery(its not original so maybe that is why it was replaced)...anyway will Simple Green clean up the acid so I can use a fiberglass patch kit to fix this problem or am i really ??

Hmmm... I've never tried it on battery acid. I have used it on some pretty tough things and got good results, but you may need something else. Give it a try, it won't hurt. Just be careful with the acid.

Since you have a hole at the bottom of your battery box, use warm soapy water and rince well. Then rince with a little baking soda and water mix to neutralize the acid. Then use the simple green or laquer thinner to remove any grease residue. Then you can repair the battery box. Joe

I buy simple green by the gallon at Home Depot. I use it by the gallon too. I spray it full strength, let it sit a minute and then wipe off a layer of crud with paper towels. For tough spots I might spray and scrub with a tooth brush or larger stiff bristled brush. ~Juliet
