Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.

The rear emblem on my '81 is very dull looking.  It is the ugly, modern "Corvette" script on the rear facia, not the crossed flags on the gas cap lid.  I was hoping to polish it up, but I don't know what the material is for sure and don't want to ruin it.  Anyone know for sure if it is solid aluminum, some kind of coated plastic or something different?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it's a clear coated plastic. If it looks that bad, new replacements are available through most any of the parts houses.
