get your rubber's shine as new

Hello everybody
I was talking to a cars show judge last weekend and he gave me a trick to get all the rubber trim's and the rubber hoses a great shine without getting them crack and keeping them like new.
it is simple as liquid shoe shine in the plastic bottle with a sponge on top I have tried it and it is soooo nice even i tried it on plastic and it works.
also on the wipers harms it works also.

Does it affect any printed codes and stuff on the hoses? Sounds like a neat approach! I've been using pledge furniture polish on the lower black air dam plastic pieces on my C3 & C4. It doesn't last for more than 3 weeks, but it goes on nicely, doesn't come off black on your fingers and also repels bugs & road crap unlike some of the black trim stuff which seems to attract dust. ~Juliet

One of the guys in my club uses silicone spray in a can with one of those little skinny tubes. It really shines the hoses, vacuum canister rubber piece, shift boot etc etc etc. Lasts for quite a while also. It should work on the weather stripping also. I don't use it personally but he swears by it.

Hope the guy doesn't plan on painting his ride anytime soon. With all that silicone around his car he's going to be lucky to get any paint to stick at all. Off-gassing from the silicone is what causes major paint cratering. One of the reasons you'll never see anything with silicone in any of the major car manufacturers paint shops! Some silicones don't off-gas as much as others, but who can really be sure which silicone they're using? I don't think the cost of silicone cleaning when it comes time to paint would be worth the effort when there are other products that do the same job.

WD-40 is a big silicone user!

That sure sounds like just one more reason for me to continue to not use it.
