Vette(s): 1975 convertible, with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.

I haven't been able to drive my car for a while , and today when I pulled the cover off I saw black specks all over it.(1) most important what do I use to remove them (2) what's a good car cover that will work better and preferably keep the car dry when it rains.

 Thanks

   Rick

Assuming(yeah I know, don't assume) you already tried washing the car as normal, and the specs remained, then, probably have to use Clay Bar. While I am not a detail person(ask anyone) I have heard the (I think its mcguires or mothers clay bar) does a great job of cleaning the surface.

Rick, Get the Superweave cover (I believe) from California Car Cover Company. I've had them on two of my cars for years. The paint always looks great when I take them off. You may have "spider poop". I've had that before, it does wash off if it is.

Believe it or not try WD40 it will remove any sticky substance I just used it to remove alot of tar spots which recently just happened to me driving past a tarring of the road job !! spray WD40 wait a few minutes and wipe clean then wash the area afterwards
There's nothing better in life then a Vette Smile

What is the color of your car cover? Did this occur outside?
I have had filler from covers get on my car as the covers material broke down. I have also had black mold and mildew on a convertible top due to trapped moisture under the cover. I switched to using waterproof covers rather than breathable ones. They cost about $60.00 at Pep Boys. Much less expensive than California brand.

Simple Green also works well on residue. Non-toxic and water based.

I suggested vinegar and water and all the spots wiped right off, then he laid down a good coat of wax. Car looks beautiful again.
