GM has officially announced that the 2026 Corvette ZR1X will serve as the Pace Car for the 110th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 24th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The ZR1X is already known as America’s quickest production car, and now it gets the honor of leading the field at Indy.
The Pace Car carries a patriotic theme that ties into the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The livery highlights American craftsmanship and a purpose driven celebration of the semi quincentennial.
Indiana University Head Football Coach Curt Cignetti has been selected as the honorary Pace Car driver. He will lead the field of 33 after guiding IU to an undefeated National Championship season.
The ZR1X is built for this kind of spotlight. It produces 1,250 horsepower through a combination of a 5.5L twin turbo V8 that sends 1,064 hp to the rear wheels and a 186 hp electric motor powering the front axle. For Pace Car duty, it carries the full Carbon Aero package with dive planes, underbody strakes, and a rear wing that generates more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed.
Performance numbers are exactly what you would expect from a Corvette wearing the ZR1X badge. It can reach 60 mph in under two seconds and has a top speed of 233 mph, which puts it in the neighborhood of the race cars it will be pacing.
The design team created a look that reflects both the history and the future of American performance. The car features Stars and Stripes graphics from the Stars and Steel Collection. It is custom painted to appear Arctic White from the driver side and Admiral Blue from the opposite side. Even the carbon fiber spine on the rear hatch carries painted striping. Inside, the ZR1X uses Santorini Blue seats with red belts and red stitched mats for a cohesive performance focused interior.
Corvette has paced the Indianapolis 500 more than any other nameplate, and 2026 marks the 37th time a Chevrolet has paced the race and the 23rd time for Corvette since 1978. It is a fitting choice for a year that celebrates both the nation’s 250th anniversary and the legacy of America’s sports car.
