Has anyone had problems topping off their gas tanks.  I bought a 2010 C6 about three weeks ago. Always use premium unleaded in it and alternate between chevron and shell gas stations.  Problem is the gas pump nozzle shuts off after about a gallon even if my tanks at 3/4 full.  I usually have to barely hold down the lever and take forever to fill the tank.  Ive heard the c5's had this problem and it had to do with the fuel tank filler hose, but haven't heard anything bout the c6's. any help or advice would be appreciated b4 i go back to the dealer.

I had a 2001 C5 that I just sold and currently have a 2005 & a 2010 and did not have any problems at all with the fuel fills. All three were convertable's and the 2010 is a Grand Sport.

Never had a problem filling mine up.  In fact, when the auto pump shuts off, you can see that it has filled way up the filler tube.  Trying to add a few more gas results in it coming out of the overflow.

One thought is if your car is on level ground when trying to fill it up; or is the car itself leveled (incorrect set of tires, etc, which would make the car not be level).  The other problem to cause premature pump shut off is if your breather tubes are plugged and pressure builds up in the tank thereby shutting down the pump.

Good luck.

i was on another forum and someone posted they had a similiar problem they inverted the gaspump nozzle and the gas flowed freely til the tank was full.  i tried this and actually found it worked for my car too. its too weird. the car is new and has the goodyear f1s there is no other problems with it.  im still going to go back to the dealer and see if they can help

I have a '07 and I have the same problem with it shutting off with little amount of gasoline put into the tank.  It must have to do with the angle of the nozzle and the angle of the tank opening.  I just take it off "auto" and just hold the nozzle while it's going into the tank at a much slower rate ... takes longer but it doesn't shut off.

Never had the problem on my 02, 07 or 2010.  May be that you need to back the nozzle out about an inch or so and then try it.  Have had that problem with some pumps on my 08 Impala, and that seemed to take care of it. Think it may have to do with how the nozzle is made and how far it goes down into the filler tube (they are not all the same).

Not sure what else would cause it other than possibly that mentioned above, but that shouldn't be problem on a brand new car.  ALSO - to keep the gas off your car, I got in the habit of putting a papertowel under the filler lip, and then on top of the pump - no spash problems on your nice clean car.

Good Luck...

Let is know if you get it figured out.

I agree.  It's usually because of the specific nozzle being utilized.  Try pulling the nozzle out of the tank a tad (1/4 inch or so).  This will impact the pressure of the fuel in the filler tube, which (I believe) is how the nozzle determines when to shut off ... THINKING the tank is full.  This *premature* shut off happens on many of my vehicles (Corvette and non Corvette) from time to time, at various fuel pumps.

If it were me, I would NOT take the car to a dealership for analysis ... unless it is under warranty.  Then again, remember, some dealerships will charge a diagnosis fee if there is no result, or if there is no defect found with the vehicle.  I'd hate to be told there is no problem, then get whacked for 1 hour of diagnostic$.  Try asking the service advisor if he has had similar problems ... or if it *might* just be the angle of the fuel nozzle.

I have had the same problem with my 07 Z51. I took it to the dealership when still under warranty and they supposedly could not find the "problem". I learned to live with it and it takes me a long time to fill up.

Yes, I've had the same problem with my 07.

I've found if you turn the gas nozzel upside down it will work fine...
