After starting my 2007 Vette with Auto Paddle Shift Transmission, I pulled the shift nob back to engage Drive. I immediately heard a mechanical metallic noise accompanied by a notchy response of the shift mechanism. The linkage somehow jammed in D. I attempted to shift back to PARK; however, the mechanical jamming continued. Using a more aggressive approach, I banged the shifter back to reverse where it hung up. I backed into a parking slot and attempted to turn the engine off. Wiggling the shift lever aggressively, I managed to move into NEUTRAL. Then I was able to STOP the engine (not in PARK).
I returned to the car later; the door opened readily. After banging the shift mechanism to DRIVE and back to NEUTRAL, the Green START indicator lighted. Depressing the Brake, I started the car and drove home.
The next morning, the car responded to nothing. Doors remain locked with no red LED indication. NOW WHAT?

Actually, when I had owned the 07 Vette just a couple of months, the same failure occurred. Some sort of metal plate in the shift mechanism had misaligned and prevent any further movement. Turned out that GM had a "fix" that was air-shipped to the dealer the next day. A mechanic installed this "fix" and I had no more trouble until yesterday.

This happen to me when I was in CA and a friend was trying to move the car in TX. I have an extended warranty, so my friend phoned the dealer. The fix was for the dealer to tow to his shop and replace the entire shift assembly. Cost unknown, it was not listed on the invoice.
