Hey Guys, I got a squeak coming from the front of the engine while it's running, sounds like the belt. A friend told me

that the C6's have a problem with the Vibration Damper separating. Has anyone had this happen to their C6? If so,

what did you do about it? I've lQQked on line but can't find anything about it. Any ideas? Thanks Chuck

Hi Chuck;  Sorry to hear of your problem.  Did a little research and found a thread on Corvette Forum that might help.  Hope it's nothing much.  See ya next week.

Chuck;  Here's another link to a video on You Tube showing how to change out the Balancer if you need to.  Good Luck.   Thumbs Up

Also, here's a video showing what the wobbly balancer looks like:

It sounds like your harmonic balancer is coming loose and will probably separate from your crankshaft...  The C6 corvettes do seem to possess this problem.  GM just used a press fit for the balancer onto the crank.  When you replace the balancer, you may want to buy an aftermarket balancer that uses a bolt instead of the GM part.  Also, Procharger used to sell a kit that would allow you to install a roll pin between the balancer and the crank.  Procharger included this kit with every supercharger sold for the C6 as it was their solution to the wobbly balancer under boost...

I had similar noise and after doing research turned out to be Harmonic dampener. Believe Gm had a program but only for 2005 models not my 2006 and newer. Heard that this problem may be present all way to 2009 models only not as prevalent as early years c6. Only have 20k miles on mine but changed it out and added new belts . Did not by Gm parts because believe they are not as reliable . Bought goodyear gator back belts because they are stiffer and bought dampener from summit racing along with center bolt which is more substantial than GM parts. Have had no problems and parts cost about $275 or so. Labor was $ 450 at my local independent shop who does good work. Dealer wanted over $ 1250 with GM parts installed. My advice is if own a 2005 thru 2008 over 10k miles and hear this squeaking from engine compartment it is likely this dampener not just belts. You can take flashlight and look at it on lower engine in front while engine running to see if dampener is wobbling. If it is and you hear the squeak then plan on changing it outb. If it is good it should run smoothly and not look like it is out of round. Some of the mentioned your tube videos above Can show you where the dampener is. Good luck to all who have this issue it is just something that comes with the territory.
