My new C6 is being delivered this week. What's the proper new engine break-in?

My dealer told me the most important thing to do during the first 500 miles was to vary the engine speed and do not use Cruise Control. Also keep the RPMs below 2500 and don't put the accelerator to the floor.
A friend of mine with a new C6 didn't worry and tested his to the hilt. Nothing has gone wrong so far but I wouldn't want to buy it now.

I think your not supposed to get up over 55 m.p.h. for the first 500 mi.eithter. I've always heard the way you break in the engine is the way it will respond later too. I wouldn't really baby it breaking it in but I wouldn't give it wide open throttle either.

I wouldn't go crazy with it, nor would I baby it. Drive with sence the first 500. Do an Oil change, then drive anyway you want. I'd worry more about braking in the brakes properly.

Lee why would you need to change the oil after just 500 miles? It didn't say anything about changing the oil that soon in the owners manual for my 98.

Read your owner's manual, and follow the manufacturer's guidelines. After all , who knows more about proper engine care, than the peole who test and build it?

The people at the factory and the Museum delivery people told me this.......
Besides and engine builder tells you to do one right after first start then one between 100 and 500 miles, then go on normal changes.....

Okay I just got back from my Museum PickUp. My host, Carroll, said the book says do not drive over 55 but that you don't have to follow that just don't use cruise control. So far that is a rerun of above. Also, vary the speed for the first 500 miles. He suggested changing the oil at 5000 not 500. I have yet to read the book. They also gave me a summary of the book which I have read. That's a good thing because of the layers and layers of electronics on this thing.
