Is there a simple, inexpensive way to defeat that maddening 1st to 4th forced shift under low velocity launches? Bliping the throttle in 1st works, but, driving in L.A. bumper to bumper traffic, I'm afraid one of these days I'll wind up with some big fat Escalade rear-end parked on my windshield. I'm sure the answer to this question is at some Vette website elsewhere, but spendin' all yer time at online traffic school, who has time to surf? Tanks eh fo' any advice.

Mid America motorworks sell what they call a CAG, which is a manuel transmission skip shift bypass. I did it myself. It costs 20 bucks. It works great.

Modifying your driving habits will eliminate the need for any device. Though I am no expert, I believe the situation is created by accelerating excessively. The internal computer derives the acceleration as a speedy one, in which case, wants you to shift into 4th (I believe this is for smog, catalytic converter or CAFE standards). I used to encounter the same problem, but rarely have the problem anymore, once I understood. However, if this is not a proper workaround, the CAG is your solution.

The only problem with Mid Americas by pass is that you check engine light might remain on all the time.

CAGS is an acronym for computer assisted gear shift. It is only activated if the engine is up to operating temp, the speed is between 16/20 mph and you are at less than 20% throttle. The CAGS eliminator sold by MAM will work and does not set a code.

I had my 05 tuned on the dyno and the tuner (Mike Norris) turned off the 1st to 4th shift with his tune program. Just fyi.
