I haven't studied the whole frontal area between the front bumper and the radiator yet but I do know that the air dam under the front bumper is primarily there to direct air to the radiator. I know there are numerous aftermarket air intake options out there that replace the stock air box/filter setup (one DIY modification I've seen a YouTube video on basically flips the stock unit upside down, along with some other "surgery", to increase airflow). Most of the aftermarket air intake setups occupy the same cavity as the stock setup so I'm wondering if opening up the blocking plates in the front bumper where the fog lights are located would help to increase airflow into that space. Thought?/suggestions?

Hello, Do you want cold air access to the M.A.F. intake to the combustion chambers, or air access to cool the engine compartment?

Short answer - yes, both.

Long answer - I have read/seen info on the stock air intake system being made a compromise by the GM engineers (one solution for all potential environments/locales the cars might live in). I haven't looked into any differences between the base cars and the Z06 but would guess there might be something to enhance the breathing of the LS6. A near term project is to open up the h-pipe restriction for increased flow - and potentially going with a more free flowing axle-back exhaust/muffler setup. More air out allows for more air in.

I've also read/seen info that by design the LS1 runs hotter than I'm used to seeing. Getting more airflow thru the engine compartment would help reduce the ambient air temp under the hood which I think would be beneficial for multiple things. "BLKBRRD" had the vents on the front quarter panels for that purpose and I've seen some kits that open up the gills on the C5's fenders (opening venting on the hood is a no-go!) .

I'm not looking to spend lots of pennies on this and also don't want to spoil the stock looks, if at all possible. After airflow is addressed as best as possible then would take "BLUBYU" somewhere to have a tune put on it to take advantage of those mods.

I have a corsa with cat back H pipe. Also a Calloway MAF with a Honker cold air intake directly through the radiator. Seems to breath good, and adds approx 30 added ponies. Temps run 185-190.

Also, my front wheel well vents are open.
