I have a 96 collector edition.   I have had it for several years.  Have 'personalized' it slightly by changing the wheels to chrome and adding some select chrome under the hood.   I have thought about having a subtle red pinstripe added but am hesitant.   I saw a later model silver vette a couple of weeks ago at a carshow that had subtle red pinstripes and was impressed by it.  But would like imput about how to personalize a collector edition without diminishing it.

I'm not a fan of red pinstripes on silver....but I am not against subtle pinstripes on specific body lines to enhance.

Post a pic of your car.

IIRC, CE's have a badging that contains a lot of chrome....maybe pinstripe with a lighter silver metallic than the paint color.

Use pinstripe tape, it can be removed and will not hurt the paint.  That said, in time it can leave a shadow.

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
Pin striping is a personal taste so be careful.  Using the tape will let you experiment with different colors to find what you like best.  Once you decide on one then you can have it painted on.

Whether it hurts the value of your car or not will depend on how much the next owner likes what you did.

Vette(s): 1965-327 coupe, 1968-small block coupe, 1969-427, 1971-454 coupe and currently a 1976-ZZ4 coupe reborn again,and hotter than ever.. Add a 1996 CE LT-4 for backup
Why not personalize your vehicle, I get a lot of Thumbs Up thumbs up with mine, as long as it is in good taste, I for one think red fender badging advertising it's as LT-4 looks cool on the silver car?? My 2 cents..Terry

There are the "purists" that think any mods to a collectable Vette will de-value it...but it is a matter of personal opinion. The original owner of my 35th put in a woodgrain dash shortly after he bought it. I was contemplating replacing it with an original dash, but since the Vette is from the 80's..it looked period correct..so I decided to leave it alone. Does this mean my 35th is not worth as much...? I think it is all up to the individual.

I too have a 96 CE, the only thing I really want to do to it is add the grandsport fender stripes, in black. I think it will give it just enough personality to make it stand out but not be overdone. I say if you go with a pinstripe, do it with the tape so it can be removed if you don't like it. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time why not personalize it to your own liking?

Vette(s): I have a 1996 Collector Edition coupe with the 6 speed/LT4 engine. Looks and runs like new. 203 coupes were exported to Canada for 1996 and of those, only 83 of them had the Z15 option.
I must be one of the purists when it comes to older cars, but my feeling is that if it's not permanent and the car can be changed back to original if desired then have at it!

The convertible with the top down just flows in a smooth line from nose to tail and doesn't need any additions to make it flow, but the B pillar on the coupe stops the smooth line to my eye.

I don't know what colour to suggest for stripes, but as stated, providing it's not overly done you should be ok. Any car either way is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Vette(s): 1989 Red Convertible - 160,000 fun-filled miles -

Another idea would be shadow stripping. IMO it would look great on a silver or black vette. The  contours on the C4's would be a lot of fun to work with, especially the raised hood areas and tail section. The silver metallic or solid black base with ghosted black pearl stripping added could be a beautiful accent without creating a distinct contrast between body paint and the strips themselves.

I'm not a purist, so I say do whatever makes you happy.  If you think a pinstrip makes it stand out and look good, go for it.
