Thumbs UpI used it in my 84 and it did work. My 96  runs about 250 then fan goes on and drops to 190. GM recomends DexCool RED for this engine. They say the aluminum heads like it better than the green, matter of fact I have a dealer installed tag on my  radiator. Just a thoughtSmile

I too saw something about a coolant that is waterless...I was watching an episode of Wheeler Dealer on Velocity channel and the tall guy Edd actually removed the radiator cap with an engine running at temp!

I recall reading that these coolant additives "work" by reducing the surface tension of the coolant.  This makes the bubbles that form at the hot spots ( think exhaust valve & combustion chamber pockets) due to localized boiling,  collapse instantanously.  These localized bubbles impede heat flow from head surfaces to coolant. How this reduces the coolant temperature was always lost on me...Confused

Anyway, the water wetter bottle used to state that it worked best in pure water, and mixing in antifreeze reduced its effectiveness..

I still think that ensuring the Radiator & A/C condenser are clean any any debris, is a big step in having a happy engine, operating temp wise, that is....

I have used Water Wetter with propylene glycol antifreeze with no problems.  It lowers the temp a few degrees.  It's not going to lower the temp below 190 without changing out the thermostat.  Amsoil also makes a wetting agent, Dominator Coolant Boost.

The waterless, permanent coolant that someone referred to is Evans.

While I have not used it in a automobile it's the go to additive for motorcycle roadracing - antifreeze is not allowed in a roadrace motorcycle - so most guys run Waterwetter and distilled water at 50/50. I’ve found it works great in this application, however it is not intended to be mixed with anti-freeze, as I live in Minnesota I do not think I would ever put it my car do to no freeze protection.

Thats the trick,it will work fine but works way better without antifreeze. It should be sold for summer use only. IMHO

I used the water wetter mentioned as my car like all of ours runs a bit hot in the summer and I thought I'd try it. I noticed no improvement at all. Thumbs Down
