This is the solid state fuel tank level sensor ( 12" long, 0-90 ohm -from Livorsi Marine in lieu of the yellow float assembly on the GM item) installed on my 96. One of the fuel cell manufacturers also has them. I had to cut and remove the top of the original filler tube and cap for use with my new setup. Took awhile to CAD the new plate, get it cut on the hydrojet, a piece of 2" aluminum tube for the filler and the fittings. You can see the GM roll-over fitting setting on the stock plate next to the oval fitting that holds it. I'm looking at an aftermarket for that but for the moment it's not installed. The stainless line is the return. My supply is already outboard (you can see it on the right side of the installed plate) and runs to the external fuel pump making the install easier. There just isn't enough room to install the new sender on the OEM plate which is why I built my own. Now I can finish filling the tank with anti-slosh fuel cell foam and not be concerned about the sender hanging up.

Neat set up, but...how the heck does it work? The fuel level sensor, that is? Got me curious....Approve

The down tube has a wire running the center isolated from the aluminum tube by nylon spacers so the fuel depth changes capacitance which the head converts to the appropriate resistance. They even have them to 4 ft long and they can be cut to length and calibrated for the new length. Once you see what the head looks like, you can see them on fuel cells that have level gauges. Trouble is, most of them are 320 to 20 ohm to work with aftermarket gauges.
