Running Hot???

Mine was running hot around town very soon after I bought it.  I cleaned the face of the radiator and now the fans never come on.  If you are running hot check the front of the radiator first.  The a/c condensor was clean on the face but nobody apparently removed the shroud to check the radiator.  Previous owner spent $750 for a fluch and new water pump and it still ran hot.

Looks "normal" to me!  
These cars are like vacuum cleaners, sucking up everything they can off the roads while you drive. The A/C condenser and radiator do need to be blown thru and cleaned regularly to keep this from happening. Glad you got yours cooling!!

Looks just like mine did!  I wish I'd grabbed some shots as I think we must have driven through the same animal and grease pile!  I just left the hose running through mine as to clear it all out, but I think I over did it and ended up having to replace the main radiator fan motor.  Feels much better now though to see the gauge away from the red at traffic stops.

I really do think it was the first time it was cleaned.  Somebody owned a dog and it sure sucked up some dog hair over the years.  Taking that shroud off was a pain but it was worth it.  I never hear the fans come on anymore. :)

Ya never know what you'll find up in there....I found a flip-flop once....

I would never thought a flip flop would be found in a radiator.  Maybe that's why the next gen vettes got a regular grill.

I used a shop vac and long hose to get between the AC and the radiator.  Pulled out a mouse nest and solved my overheating problems.  I had spent money on radiator flush and water wetter to bring the temps down from 240 and it was the shop vac that did the trick!!  No need to take the shroud off-  there's a hole in the side big enough to get the nozzle in (on the '93s at least!).

Well, there's another addition to my spring "to do" list. An easy 1 beer job.

 I put  a screen under the front bumper it works great. Just vacum the screen
